Chinese Ngohiong in Cebu

It was back in 2005 when I first tasted ngohiong, a common street food here in Cebu. It’s basically a fried vegetable lumpia filled with ubod (heart of palm) and singkamas (yam bean/native turnip) seasoned with Chinese 5 spice powder aka Ngohiong powder.

I may not have liked ngohiong the first time I tried it, but recently, I’ve been addicted to it! *nom* And just a couple of days ago, Val finally brought me to eat at the famous Chinese Ngohiong House near San Carlos University, main campus in Junquera (Ongkera) St., Cebu City.

We went there around 2 in the afternoon, but there’s still a pretty good crowd eating inside. I can’t imagine how it is at lunch time!

We only spent less than a hundred pesos for our lunch, but we were absolutely stuffed! Amazing, isn’t it? Here’s what I had on my plate:

I just had 2 puso (hanging rice), actually! Val had 3, haha! I also had chicken skin and crab meat, yum! We also like their stuffed eggs but we didn’t order because we’ve tried it already.

Designs by Snowlady: Nature Walk

Last year, my family went on a vacation to visit my cousins in Mindanao and part of the trip was to drop by our National Hero’s (Jose Rizal) shrine in Dapitan. It was also the year of Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday. Here’s a souvenir picture of me and my mom:

You’re probably thinking that this is a long overdue post. True! But, I happen to have found the perfect scrapbooking kit to scrap our photos taken on that memorable trip.

It’s no other than Designs by Snowlady’s Nature Walk. This kit is perfect for all your outdoor photos, whether you’re out on a picnic, taking a hike somewhere, or just simply hanging out in your backyard. Read More »

Camotes Island: Getting There

Finally, Val and I decided to visit Camotes Island. My childhood friend, Arlene, who has been living in the island for years invited us to come see the beautiful white sand beaches and other places that the island is known for. She has already booked us in one of the resorts there for an overnight stay on her day-off. We just had to get ourselves there!

So, from our place, we took a jeepney to SM Cebu, where there are jeepneys and V-hire (van-for-hire) to take us to Danao City. When we got there, we didn’t wait long until we saw a jeepney with a Danao sign (#27) approaching. It stopped right in front of us so we hopped in. The ride to Danao was a pretty long one, maybe an hour or so. Plus, the jeepney was dropping and picking up passengers along the way. But I didn’t really mind because we left pretty early.

When we saw Astroboy of Cebu Mitsumi Inc., we knew we’re already in Danao. So we just observed where the jeepney will take us. Also, I gave the driver Php 100 for our fare and he gave me back Php 30. So that’s Php 70 for me and Val, meaning the fare was Php 35 each. We eventually saw Danao Port when the jeepney we’re riding took a left turn off the main road. So we got off the jeepney and walked a good couple of blocks to the port. We passed by the old church of Danao and I took a couple of pictures. Here’s one!

Not far from the church is this sign…
